The Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is the evidential voucher for any foreign migrant to work in the UK based on a sponsorship by their employer. This electronic document is issued by the licensed sponsor to any candidate that they seem fit to work for their organisation in the UK. The assignment of CoS to your desired person is based on the Sponsorship Management System (SMS) where you get the license to sponsor in the first place and it can be critical.

Eligibility:

Entities that wish to sponsor a foreign migrant to come and work for them in the UK must issue a CoS to their prospective employees in order for them to subsequently attain a suitable visa on the basis of their assigned CoS reference number. In order for any entity to be eligible to issue these CoS, they must have:

A valid Sponsorship license issued by the Home Office (apply now)
A-rating on the Home Office list of sponsor (B-rated sponsors cannot issue new CoS)
Successful allocation of Defined/Undefined CoS by the Home Office through SMS
Details of the Job (title, SOC code, description, salary, start & end date)
Details of the Candidate (name, DOB, nationality etc) and they must also meet the requirements for the visa they are going to apply for such as skilled worker, GBM etc.
